The department provides leadership in clinical care and improving health for all children by serving about 60,000 out-patients and 5,000 in-patients per year. There are 12 subspecialties in this department including: allergy&clinical immunology, cardiology, dermatology, developmental& behavioral pediatrics, gastroenterology&nutrition, endocrinology& metabolism, hematology&oncology, infectious disease, pulmonology, nephrology, neonatology and neurology. Three courses in Pediatrics for the 4th, 5th, and 6th year medical students, a three-year residency training program and a two-year fellowship training in subspecialties are also provided. The major areas of research are HIV infection in children and thalassemia.
